About the Monmouth Technology Initiative
MTI
Q: Who is part of MTI?
A: It is a program that is run by two area supervisors: Barb Pearson and Paul Schuytema, and has one program facilitator: Tony J. Cox. It is a program that is sponsored by AmeriCorps.
Q: What exactly is the MTI?
A: It is a program that has been implemented to help spread the advances in technology to as many people, and businesses, as possible in our community.
Q: When did the MTI begin?
A: The program began June 3, 2001. And, with the help of the community the program will continue to exist for a long time to come.
Q: Where is the MTI's home base?
A: Our technology center is based in the Chandler Building at 1291 N. 6th St., Ste.100. The phone number is (309) 734-1986.
Q: Why was the MTI implemented?
A: The MTI was implemented to help our small community keep up with all of the advancements in technology. In a community such as Monmouth's, in order for it to grow it is important that businesses, as well as individuals, keep up to date with the advancements in technology so citizens are trained to do the jobs already available in our community. And, also so our community can attract new employers.
Q: How will the MTI try to accomplish the goal of making the community more technologically aware?
A: By doing anything we possibly can. We are holding computer classes in our computer lab that cover such areas as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Works, Power Point, Microsoft Front Page (Web Design), and internet and email. We would also like to help are local businesses by advertising them on a community home page so everyone is aware of what great businesses already exist here, and exactly what each of them do. We also want to help our businesses with questions they have about technology and technological advancements. And, if we can't answer their questions, we will find someone who can. One other program we would like to initiate is where older computers are refurbished and handed out to those who need them. If anyone has any other suggestions or comments feel free to contact us at (309) 734-1986.
